So, I just thought I'd clear up a piece of grammar idiocy that tends to upset my equalibrium. When a name ends in 's' the rules regarding possession are as follows:
1) Apostrophe Only
An example of this might be the name Alexis. To pluralize it, merely add the apostrophe.
"Alexis' car is so nice, I'm jealous."
Okay, so by now you might be part of the few people who already have that mastered and are saying "yeah, obviously Josiah!". However, what comes next is often misconstrued.
2) Pronunciation
When making the statement to relate how you feel about Alexis' car, the pronunciation doesn't change from its original state. This rule is invariable. Many people don't even believe it to be a rule. Look it up! A good way to see (or hear rather) this in action is easier understood by those of us who pray in Jesus' name. It isn't pronounced like Jesuses, however many people unknowingly and unashamedly would pronounce Alexis' as Alexises. Okay I'm done! Hopefully my ranting was educational.
